Valerie “Miraj” Dishong:
Originally from Lebanon, PA Miraj established her performance and Middle Eastern dance instruction business in Harrisburg in 1988. She has a bachelor’s degree in the performing arts and has lectured at Harrisburg Area Community College and Elizabethtown college. The director and choreographer of Troupe Miraj, she was commissioned to choreograph for the Pennsylvania Youth Music Theater in 1994. She has taught Middle Eastern dance in the United States for over 20 years, and has made several teaching and performance tours of England since 1997, including one memorable performance for members of Parliament. Currently she performs most weekends as the featured dancer at both Aangan Indian restaurant and Cedars Lebanese restaurant in Camp Hill.
Well-versed and experienced in multiple styles of Middle Eastern dance including Cabaret, Egyptian, Turkish, and American Tribal, as well as Polynesian (Tahitian, Hawaiian, Maori, and Samoan), she is known for her fusion of Hip Hop, Jazz and Modern dance with belly dance. She coined the term “Contemporary American Belly Dance” to describe this exciting, athletic and colorful style of dance. Miraj is the director/choreographer of Troupe Miraj. View troupe resume
